In State vs Activists, Supreme Court To Decide Today On House Arrest

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is likely to pronounce today, its verdict on a plea by historian Romila Thapar and others seeking the immediate release of five rights activists in connection with the Koregaon-Bhima violence case and an SIT probe into their arrest.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra had reserved the judgment on September 20 after counsel for both parties, including senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Harish Salve and Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, concluded their submissions.

US reviewing India's development of Chabahar port, says official

Washington: The Trump administration, which is determined to impose fresh set of sanctions on Iran and countries and entities engaged in business with Tehran, is currently reviewing India's development of the strategically important Chabahar port in the Islamic Republic, a senior government official has said. 

The Chabahar port is being considered a gateway to golden opportunities for trade by India, Iran and Afghanistan with central Asian countries besides ramping up trade among the three countries in the wake of Pakistan denying transit access to New Delhi. 

Flipkart CEO Binny Bansal quits after "personal misconduct" probe

New Delhi: Flipkart Group CEO Binny Bansal Tuesday resigned following an allegation of 'serious personal miscount', the firm's new parent Walmart said.

Bansal, who along with Sachin Bansal had co-founded India's biggest online retailer Flipkart, "strongly denies the allegation", Walmart said in a statement.

Binny, it said, has resigned as the CEO of Flipkart Group with immediate effect.

BJP deviates from stand on dynastic politics to avoid revolt in Rajasthan

Jaipur: The ruling BJP has awarded tickets to close family members of several party leaders to contest the December 7 assembly election in Rajasthan, deviating from its stand against dynastic politics.

Party leaders said the deviation was necessitated to avoid revolt within the party.

The party was taking each step in ticket distribution cautiously to avoid revolt within the party, which otherwise could play spoilsport and affect its prospects in the crucial election.

Lalu takes to Twitter to greet people on Chhath

Patna: Away from home, jailed RJD president Lalu Prasad on Tuesday took to Twitter on Tuesday to greet people on the occasion of Chhath, inarguably the most popular festival of Bihar.

The former Bihar chief minister, who is serving sentences in a number of fodder scam cases, is currently undergoing treatment at a Ranchi hospital.

He has, however, been sharing his thoughts and feelings on a number of issues on his official Twitter handle, which is managed by his close aides.

Sabarimala case: SC to hear review petitions on Jan 22, refuses to stay its earlier verdict

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday agreed to hear on January 22 a batch of review petitions against its verdict allowing entry of women of all age groups into the Sabarimala temple.

The apex court said however that there will be no stay on the September 28 verdict which allowed entry of women in the shrine.

On Camera, Tigress Chases Tourist SUV In Maharashtra

Nagpur: A video of a tigress chasing a tourist vehicle in the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra has gone viral on social media.

In the video clip, tourists freaked out as they noticed the striped animal running after their sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Range Forest Officer Raghvendra Moon said the incident took place on Sunday in a buffer zone of the tiger reserve, located in the neighbouring Chandrapur district.

The three-and-a-half year old tigress, named 'Chhoti Madhu', may have got infuriated seeing visitors' vehicle near her, he said.

Akshay Kumar's 'Mission Mangal' to release on Independence Day next year

Mumbai: Akshay Kumar's next "Mission Mangal", which is being touted as India's first space film, will hit the theatres on August 15 next year.

Akshay announced the release date on Twitter.

"A powerful true story of ordinary people with extraordinary dreams, on an unheard of mission to achieve the impossible. #MissionMangal will come alive on 15th August, 2019. See you at the theaters. @foxstarhindi," he wrote.
