50 Modi kits will be provided to each ward of Mangaluru City Corporation: MLA Vedavyas Kamath

Mangaluru: As the entire nation is under a lockdown, people are struggling for essential commodities as there is an acute shortage in retail stores. Even in Mangaluru, many shopkeepers in the city are out of stock and people are now in a state of panic.

However, Mangaluru South MLA Vedvayas Kamath has assured that measures have been taken to tackle the situation and that there is no shortage of supplies in the city.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Vedavyas Kamath said, People need not worry about the essential commodities as a meeting has been convened with the wholesaler dealers of Central market and Bunder areas regarding the supply of essential commodities.

Measures have been taken to provide essential food supplies to people who do not have APL or BPL card and free lunch has been provided for those sheltered in hostels and schools. More than 2,000 people are provided free lunch at Kadri temple, he added

He further said, 50 Modi kits, each comprising of 5 kgs of rice, 1 kg sugar, half kg dal, paste, oil and soap will be provided to each ward of Mangaluru City corporation.

Kamath said, those who have been tested positive for Covid-19 are recovering and around 30 people whose results are awaited are put under quarantine.
