Kasargod: A class 1 girl student of Ethadka upper primary school was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live wire while playing outside her house at Ethadka, Kumbdaje on Monday, October 1.

The deceased Arpita, 6, is the youngest of the three siblings born to Jayarama, a daily-wage labourer and Jayanti, an Anganwadi assistant.

As per reports Arpita had ventured outside her house in the evening hours when she accidentally stepped on an electric cable that had snapped owing to the thunderous rains and winds. Hearing her daughter’s shriek, Jayanti rushed to save her and in the process, she too sustained an electric shock.

The electricity supply was cut off immediately and the two were rushed to the Kasargod general hospital. However, Arpita passed away while Jayanti is being treated for her injuries at the hospital.

A case stands registered in Badiyadka police station.
