95.12 kg gold seized by customs department at Mangaluru International Airport in 4 years

Mangaluru: A total of 95.12 kg of gold, smuggled by passengers from various Gulf countries, was seized at Mangaluru International airport from 2017 to 2021

The information was obtained under RTI from the office of the deputy/assistant commissioner of Customs at the airport.

Officials claim that gold seized from passengers was disposed of, after following the due procedures laid down as per the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

It is said that in 2017-18, 19.45 kg gold was recovered, in 2018-19, 41.58 kg was recovered,  2019-20, 22.37 kg gold was recovered and 11.72 kg in 2020-21 till January.

The total value of this gold is Rs 32.98 crore.
