Accused under judicial custody for questioning dies

Mangaluru: An accused remanded for judicial custody at Dakshina Kannada prison on Monday late night, fell sick and breathed his last on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased is identified as H M Raju (24) of Belthangady.
Raju who was an accused in a case was on the run and filed to appear in the court, hence he was arrested after a warrant for same was issued by the court. He was then sent to judicial custody and the entire process was completed by 3:30 am on August 20th.
In the morning, he consumed food at the jail and informed the other prisoners that he was not keeping well. By afternoon, his condition worsened and soon he collapsed and breathed his last. Although he was rushed to Wenlock hospital the doctors there declared him to be brought dead. It is learnt that the accused was sick even before being sent to prison.
