Action to detect missing fishermen: Dr Jayamala

Udupi: The state government and Udupi district administration has taken all the possible steps to locate the missing deep sea trawler ‘Suvarna Tribhuja’ and its crew of seven fishermen who went missing twenty days ago, stated the district in-charge minister Dr Jayamala in a press release.

The minister said that when she came to know that the boat had gone missing, she had contacted the police, coast guard and fisheries department immediately, asking to prepare task forces and conduct search operation in most systematic manner and also seek help from the navy wherever necessary.   

Not limiting the search to the borders of Karnataka, search operations are also being conducted on the side of Goa and Maharashtra. Suitable approvals have been received to make used of the army if necessary in the search operation, she informed.

The chief minister, deputy chief minister, home minister and the concerned officials have been furnished with all the details about the missing boat and seven fishermen. Taking the initiative, they are directing the operations. ”I have requested the home minister to come to Udupi for investigations and he will come on Saturday. We will be holding a meeting and prepare a blueprint for swift operations,” assured the minister.

“I am confident that our efforts to bring back all the seven fishermen will be successful and we will be free from anxiety,” she observed.

Tweeting on the issue of the missing fishermen, former chief minister Siddaramaiah tweeted that the departments involved in locating the missing fishermen and bringing them back need to intensify their work. I will also talk with the district in-charge minister regarding all types of assistance that the government will provide for this. Let the missing reach safely to their families, he tweeted.

Assistance form defence department

The search for the missing fishermen has intensified and assistance has been provided by the department of defence in the search and rescue operation, informed MP Shobha Karandlaje.

In the backdrop of the MP meeting with the defence minister Nirmala Seethraman and requesting support from he defence in quickly finding the missing, the defence minister immediately contacted the Maharashtra government, the coast guard and the Indian Navy to provide additional assistance in relocating the missing fishermen and their rescue.
