Bengaluru: Authorities at Kempegowda International Airport have arrested an African national with 1.3 kg of cocaine concealed in his stomach in the form of capsules.
Acting on a tip-off about a drug ‘mule’ (someone who carries contraband) smuggling high-value cocaine into Bengaluru, the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a passenger who arrived on a flight from West Asia.
He claimed to have visited the city for kidney treatment and had a medical visa. Later, the man was taken for a medical scan which revealed that the accused was carrying drug capsules hidden in his stomach.
The capsules were later identified as cocaine and the man was shifted to the hospital where the capsules were extracted on Friday evening.
Police officials have now arrested the accused.
