After mid-term polls remark, HDK says Devegowda meant local body polls

Bengaluru: Shortly after JDS supremo HD Devegowda suggested that mid-term polls were imminent in Karnataka, Chief minister Kumaraswamy tried to hush up the matter by claiming that the former was referring to local body elections.
Claiming that the coalition government was stable and will complete its tenure, Kumaraswamy said, “Deve Gowda didn’t say mid-term polls. He said local body elections. He only narrated how the government was formed back in 2018. This government will continue for next 4 years.”
Meanwhile Congress party leader Dinesh Gundu Rao said that the remark was Devegowda personal opinion and was far from the truth. “This is his [Deve Gowda’s] personal statement. He keeps making statements like these but there is no truth in this remark. Deve Gowda should clarify his remark,” he said.
Earlier today Devegowda created a stir by stating that mid-term polls were imminent in Karnataka while admitting to differences between coalition leaders.
Speaking to a Kannada news channel Devegowda said that it was the Congress party who approached JDS for an alliance to ensure BJP does not form government in the state. He further added that while he was in favour of Mallikarjun Kharge for the chief ministers’ post, it was the Congress who insisted that Kumaraswamy be made the chief minister.
