Alleged gang rape of girl student, five arrested

Puttur: Five persons were arrested on Wednesday by the special teams formed Dakshin Kannada superintendent of police (SP) BM Laxmi Prasad, in relation with the alleged gang rape of a girl student of a private college in the town.
The arrested are Gurunandan (19), son of Radhakrishna, Prajwal (19), son of Nagesh Naika, Kishan (19), son of Sadashiva, Sunil (19), son of Kantappa Gowda, and Prakhyath (19), son of Subbanna Shetty.
As per the sources, four students of a private college in the town had taken a female student to an unknown place and allegedly raped her after intoxicating her by feeding some substance, they also recorded the video of the same and shared it on WhatsApp.
The police have registered a gang rape case and are investigating further.
Meanwhile, the private college in which they were studying suspended the five students after the video went viral on WhatsApp.
Earlier, today Dakshin Kannada superintendent of police (SP) BM Laxmi Prasad on Wednesday informed that a suo moto case will be registered against those who circulate or save the video of a girl and some boys engaged in intimate acts.
As per the press statement given by the SP, “It has come to notice of the police department that two videos of a girl and boys engaging in an intimate act in a blue-coloured car are being circulated through WhatsApp. Police will be taking up a suo moto case in this regard.
