Mangaluru: The sixth additional district and sessions court judge, D T Puttarangaswamy has sentenced serial killer Cyanide Mohan Kumar (56) to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of murdering a 31-year-old lady from Mittoor in Idkidu village, Bantwal taluk. The judgment and the quantum was delivered on Thursday Jan 31st.
Mohan made friends with the victim hailing from Bantwal at Vittal bus stand introducing himself as Sudhakar Gowda and collected her phone number. In time, he promised her marriage and asked her to come to Puttur Bus stand on April 22, 2009, with all her jewels. Accordingly, she resigned from her job in Puttur and followed Mohan to Mysuru where the couple booked a room in the hotel. After raping the victim with the promise of marriage on April 23 2009, he asked her to leave the belongings at hotel room, in guise of taking her for an interview. He then offered her cyanide pills as pregnancy preventive pills which silently killed the victim in the rest room of KSRTC Bus stand in Mysuru.
The corpse of the victim was recovered by Mysuru police who booked a case of unnatural death and the case was not pursued as no case had been filed of her missing by her family. This is so because, Mohan had earlier informed (posing as Suthakar Gowda) the family that they were happily married and would return after some days. After murdering the lady, Mohan used the phone number of the victim to lure three more victims.
There are 20 cases booked against Mohan who murdered his victims with the same Modus Operandi. This is the 6th cases where he has been convicted. In the other five cases, he has been sentenced to death in one case, lifer term without remission in three cases and life term in another case. 14 more case cases remain pending against him in the Courts.
