Asare celebrates ten years of accomplishments

Manipal: Teachers, students, parents and well-wishers evinced a lot of enthusiasm at the decennial celebrations of Asare, a home for special children with a school, rehabilitation centre, autism and learning disorder division, held on Saturday at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium in KMC here. It was inaugurated by Udupi MLA Mr Raghupathi Bhat, MAHE Pro-Chancellor Dr H.S. Ballal presided over the function.
Asare, is a project supported by Manipal Academy of Higher Education as its social responsibility and is run by the Archana Trust. The celebrations were held in two parts. A function in the morning followed by another in the afternoon. Mrs Shruti Pai, Director MEMG, Bangalore was the chief guest for the afternoon programme and MAHRE Vice Chancellor, Dr H Vinod Bhat presided over the function.
Jai Vittal, the brain behind Asare summed up the decade of progress and that was amply presented through a video made by School of Communication. Asare has 40 inmates and 10 day scholars. It provides vocational training in basic computer operation, tailoring, making plates with paper and areca nut leaf sheaths and in craft the inmates are taught to make crepe paper flowers, greeting cards, paper bags and envelopes. One of the inmates, Archana is an international swimmer who recently won a bronze medal at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.
Udupi MLA, Raghupathi Bhat speaking on the occasion appreciated the contribution of the teachers of special school children. “I am happy that there are many exclusive schools in Udupi which accommodate and nurture the kids who need special care. The dedication of teachers and their contribution towards society building is noteworthy,” he said. He added that the Central government has introduced several schemes for the benefit of specials children lately.
