Bengaluru: Reacting to the open letter written by PM Modi to citizens on completion of the first year of his second term, former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday, May 30 stated that ‘lying’ has been the biggest achievement of this government.

“Citizen of this country voted Modi to power for a second term. The Modi-led government failed to fulfil its promise in the first term. It is continuing to speak lies even in the second term. Lying has been the biggest achievement of this government,” he said.

Speaking to reporters here Siddaramaiah said that Modi in his letter claimed abrogation of Article 370, Ayodhya Temple verdict and repealing of Triple Talaq as the government’s biggest achievements. He questioned how the court’s verdict, referring to the Ayodhya Temple case was an achievement of the NDA government.

The government has however remained silent on issues such as unemployment, recession, declining GDP. India’s GDP has fallen below the GDP of Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Unemployment is at its peak. Youth do not have any job prospects. The government has amended the APMC Act despite the opposition. Now amendments are being proposed to Labour Law.

On the Rs 20 crore economic package announced by the Centre, Siddaramaiah said that it was only one per cent of India’s GDP. Monetary benefits should have been given to people to help economy revive. On tackling of Covid 19 pandemic, the Congress leader said that both Centre and the state government have failed completely.

The Centre has not released to states its due share of GST. Chief Minister and MPs are not questioning the lack of flood relief compensation received by the state, he alleged.

On political development in the BJP he said barring Ramesh Jarkiholi and Mahesh Kumtahalli the other who had deflected form the previous government had done so for money. Neither I nor my part are responsible if this government falls owing to ministerial aspiration of its leaders.
