Baba ka Dhaba owner apologises to YouTuber for defaming him, video goes viral

Kanta Prasad, Baba Ka Dhaba owner who shot to fame after YouTube vlogger Gaurav Wasan highlighted his plight in a video that went viral is in the news again.  In a new video that has surfaced on the internet, Kanta Prasad was seen apologizing to Wasan for the defamatory comments he had made.

In the viral video, the 80-year old Kanta Prasad was seen back at his famous roadside stall in Malviya Nagar, making parathas. The video was shared by the official handle of Dil Se Foodie.

While the food blogger spoke to Kanta about his restaurant that got shut after failing to attract customers and asking about his thoughts on Gaurav Wasan, he said, “Gaurav Wasan, woh ladka koi chor nahi tha, na usko humne kabhi chor kahan hai (Gaurav Wasan was not a thief neither did I ever call him that).”

In October 2020, Kanta Prasad rose to fame as Mr. Wasan shared a video of him crying about the lack of business because of the pandemic. The video of the old man showing a few ₹ 10 notes as his day’s collection tugged hearts and the next day his stall was flooded by Delhiites.

It got the attention of Bollywood stars, cricketers, and even the chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal.

People praised Mr Wasan for highlighting the plight of such eatery owners.

Things turned ugly when Kanta accused Wasan of not giving him the entire amount received in donations for the restaurant.

The viral video changed Kanta Prasad’s life. Customers flooded the now-famous Baba ka dhaba, TV crews showed up all the time, Mr. Prasad found himself being interviewed a lot and generous donations poured in from across the country.

In December, he decided to open a new restaurant.

Facing losses, Kanta Prasad finally decided to shut the place in mid-February. In May, he returned to his old food stall.
