
Bantwal: One arrested for Illegal cattle smuggling

Bantwal: Police arrested one person for illegally transporting cattle in a pick-up vehicle at Mammemar near Farangipet here.
The accused has been identified as Praveen Pradeep Fernandes, who was driving the pickup can. Two more accused, identified as Royal Saldanha and Sameem Adyarpadavu, managed to evade arrest and fled from the spot, police said.
The illegal activity came to light when a team headed by Bantwal Rural Police station SI Udayaravi YM was on patrol based on a tip-off. The pickup vehicle was stopped near Ammemar railway crossing, police said.
Two calves tied cruelly in the vehicle were rescued, whereas the pickup van was seized.
Police have taken into custody an accused who was carrying cattle in a pick-up vehicle along with the vehicle at Ammemar near Farangipet.
The accused has been booked under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of cattle Act. A case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station.
