Bantwal: Three of family test positive for COVID-19, state toll rises to 789

Mangaluru: Three members of a family in Bantwal and 33 people from other districts of the state were tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, May 9 taking the state toll to 789.

The three of a family in Bantwal contracted the infection from the patient number 578, who had contracted the virus from the Dakshina Kannada’s first casualty, state the Karnataka’s mid-day health bulletin.

The 36 new cases include- 12 from Bengaluru urban, seven from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada, five from Davangere, three each from- Bantawal in Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga and Bidar, and one each from Tumakuru, Davangere and Vijayapura.

While most cases are contacts of patients already tested positive, three are with travel history to Ahmedabad, two are from a containment zone in Bengaluru, and one person’s contact is under tracing.

Till date 789 cases have been reported including, 30 death and 379 discharges.
