Belagavi: In the backdrop of Shiv Sena’s decision to participate in the protest called by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES), on March 8, demanding the removal of a Kannada flag hoisted in front of Belagavi City Corporation (BCC), deputy commissioner M G Hiremutt has barred the entry of Shiv Sena leaders in the district.
The Kannada flag was hoisted in the city corporation premises in month of January triggering protests by pro-Maharashtra groups which are demanding its removal.
It maybe recalled that Maharashtra Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had too recently remarked over the border issue.
The administration has issued prohibitory orders against activists of Shiv Sena including Kolhapur district president Vijay Devane. The same will be in place from 6 am of March 7 to 6 am of March 9. The DC has also appealed to MES to withdraw the proposed protest.
