Bengaluru: Two fraudsters have been arrested by South CEN Crime police for cheating a city-based businessman of Rs 3.5 crore on the pretext of helping him invest in cryptocurrency.
The accused have been identified as Piyushbhai Himmatlal Soni and Rajeshbhai Dhirajlal Soni from Gujarat.
The victim, identified as 37-year-old Gowtham, a resident of JP Nagar in Bengaluru had filed a complaint in connection with the fraud on June 28.
It is said that Gowtham contacted his friend Ramesh who had made profits in cryptocurrency. Ramesh asked him to contact his friend Kunal Anup Chandrana, who was an expert in the cryptocurrency business.
On May 15, Gowtham transferred Rs 3.5 into two accounts but Chandrana did not invest his money in the cryptocurrency business nor did he return the amount to Gowtham.
After the complaint was filed by Gowtham, the CEN Crime police team nabbed two accused. The prime accused in the case, Kunal Anup Chandrana, is absconding. A local court had dismissed Chandrana’s anticipatory bail plea on August 10 and they were later arrested.
