Bengaluru: Over 600 migrant workers from Kalaburagi got the shock of their life after their huts and belongings were reduced to ashes near the Sunday Bazar in Kachakaranahalli in Lingarajapuram in Bengaluru East.
As per sources, for the past 20 years over 600 migrants from Kalaburagi have been living in the slum near the temple complex in Kacharakanahalli. Before the lockdown was imposed in the state all of the migrants had gone back to their villages to attend a local festival.
When they returned after the lockdown was eased they were shocked after they found their places were gutted completely.
The books of the children of these migrant workers, some of whom are appearing for the SSLC examination were also completely burnt and their future looks highly uncertain.
The Chairperson, Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR), Antony Sebastian, who visited the site and spoke to the migrant workers, has contacted the Block Education Officer (BEO) and District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) about the students and requested study material for the forthcoming board examination.
