Bengaluru: The first list of candidates of the BJP for the Assembly elections is likely to be announced next week. A senior BJP leader said that the first list is likely to be announced next week but not before April 10th and is expected to have 140 names.

Party’s central leadership’s surveys about “winnability” of candidates had caused anxiety among incumbent MLA’s. But sources say that most of them are likely to get ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly elections.

Expecting very tough fight in the elections, the party has chosen not to court risk. It is learnt that the governing Congress has also dropped its earlier proposal of excluding a sizeable number of incumbent MLA’s for ticket.

It is understood that the surveys conducted by multiple agencies on behalf of BJP central leadership will now only provide feedback on potential candidates. The key factor in deciding candidates is based on consultations among senior leaders, local units and central leadership.
