Bengaluru: Bengaluru emerged as the third most polluted city in India with 12,000 estimated deaths, according to a study by Greenpeace Southeast Asia

Delhi, with 54,000 deaths, fared the worst in the world and Mumbai stood second in the country with 25,000 deaths. Also, air pollution is estimated to have killed 11,637 people in Hyderabad and 10,910 in Chennai.

Globally, around 160,000 deaths have been attributed to air pollution

It is said that these numbers were reached using live air quality data collected by IQAir, an air quality monitoring technology provider. The study also calculated the estimated economic losses directly related to air pollution in terms of both direct healthcare costs and reduced economic productivity
