Malpe: The labourers of Uttara Kannada district have decided not to indulge in fishing activities until the missing fishermen are found and hence, only a handful boats have ventured out into the sea for fishing while the majority of the boats have remained anchored at the fisheries port in Malpe. The few deep sea trawlers which have ventured out into the sea for fishing have successfully done so since their crew is made up of labourers from Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Bhatkal Trawler boats owners association held a meeting on Tuesday and decided that they would venture out for fishing on Jan 11th. But it is now understood that the labourers will hold a meeting with the association on Wednesday and then come to a decision.

Minister’s insensitive words condemned

Udupi: Fishermen’s leader TP member Sharath Kuar Beilari and GP president Umesh Poojary Badanady have demanded that the state Animal Husbandry and Fisheries minister Venkatarao Nadagouda. Must resign for speaking insensitively regarding the mysterious disappearance of the deep sea trawler suvarna tribhuja along with its crew of seven fishermen.

“The government has taken all possible steps it could. Instead of protesting, if the fishermen leaders gave us ideas and solutions, we are open on incorporating them. We have even conducted search operations with helicopters. Now that they are untraceable should I jump to the sea to trace them?” questioned the minister in Sindhur and this is being shared wildly on social media. This minister who has no concern, compassion and respect for fishermen is not fit to carry on with the position. A minister like this will not fulfill any expectations. He must beg for pardon for his mistake, said the leaders.

Search continues: SP

The coast guard and Indian navy has continued their search for the missing boat. Assistance to locate the boat through satellite mapping has been initiated ISRO, KSASS in Bengaluru and INCOIS in Hyderabad for information exchange, informed the SP.

Visit by minister

State Animal Husbandry and Fisheries minister Venkatarao Nadagouda will arrive to Udupi on Jan 9th at 4 pm, visit the families of the missing fishermen and provide solace to them. Later there will be meeting with district officials.
