#BoycottMyntra trends on the internet as an old ‘anti-Hindu’ illustration resurfaces

The hashtag #BoycottMyntra and #UninstallMyntra have been surfacing on the internet just like the times before. This time it has been trending for the same reason it did in 2016- for an ‘anti-Hindu’ poster, that didn’t even make it into print or online. Notably, Myntra had clarified back then that it did not create the poster which was dubbed ‘anti-Hindu.’

The illustration put out by ‘ScrollDoll’ agency was based on a scene from the Mahabharata, showing the disrobing of the Draupadi episode and then trying to turn it into a selling point for Myntra, which is known for being a retailer of garments. It showed Krishna looking for ‘extra long’ sarees on the Myntra app as Dushaasan disrobed Draupadi.

Indians slammed the graphic for trivializing the scene from the Hindu epic, deeming it disrespectful to their religion.

The advertisement has once again resurfaced, with people uninstalling the application for the same reason as 2016, which is hurting Hindu sentiments.

Back in 2016, Myntra clarified that neither did they create the advertisement nor did they endorse it in any way. They mentioned that they would be pursuing legal action against them for using our brand. Further explained that “This creative was done and posted by a third party (ScrollDroll) without our knowledge or approval.”

Scroll Droll mentioned that the ad was created in February 2016 in their statement. They added that the graphic may have resurfaced due to Janmashtami then.

Five years later, we can see the same thing being repeated once more. Many users have already uninstalled the app and some even rated with 1-star reviews that the reason they were uninstalling was the ‘anti-Hindu’ sentiment.

This is not the first time the brands had to face flak for hurting religious sentiments. 1-sta reviews that the reason they were uninstalling was the ‘anti-Hindu’ sentiment.
