Mangaluru: Minister for Fisheries and Religious Endowment Kota Shrinivas Poojari has stated that there are no signs of water scarcity for the upcoming summer season in the Dakshina Kannada district as per a review done by the district administration and Panchayati Raj Department.
He further stated that periodic review will be conducted and based on that appropriate decisions will be taken.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, February 23, Poojari said that the main source of water for Mangaluru, the Thumbe vented dam, has a steady inflow of water.
The water in the dam is being maintained at six metres. A survey to assess the land that will be submerged when the water level will be raised to seven metres is underway.
Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh noted that after this survey the minor irrigation department will construct a road barrage-cum-dam at the Adyar downstream which will further add to the water availability. The tenders for the construction of the barrage is being finalised.
