Cheating after promising to marry: 10 year RI

Kundapur: A person identified as Ampar Moodubage resident Vigneshwara (32) has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000 by the additional district and sessions court justice Prakash Khanderi on the charges of taking advantage of a woman by making false promises of marriage.
On Jan 4th it was proved that he was a guilty. During the questioning which was done on Jan 8th, the judge had announced that the quantum of the sentencing will be announced on Jan 17th.
12 people questioned
The then Kundapur Circle Inspector Diwaker P M had submitted the charge sheet to the Court. Altogether there were 20 witnesses and along with the victim girl, 12 people were questioned.
Public prosecutor B Prakashchandra Shetty argued in favour of the prosecution.
Quantum of the sentence
The guilty has been sentenced to 1 year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 for cheating under Sec 417, 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 20,000 for rape under Sec 376. Since the punishment has to be faced in a single time, he will be facing 10 years of RI and a fine of Rs 25,000.
