Coast guard rescues fishing boat off Surathkal coast

Mangaluru: Indian Coast Guard Ship Savitribai Phule rescued a fishing boat that was adrift 18 nautical miles off Surathkal on May 22nd.
During routine patrol, ICGS Savitribai Phule received a VHF call from fishing boat St Jude that had 11 crew members onboard, requesting for assistance. The ship reached the position of the adrift fishing boat and rendered assistance, informed DIG Surendra Singh Dasila, commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka.
The ship’s boarding party along with technical team boarded the fishing boat and provided assistance to the boat that was adrift due to engine failure since Monday. The ship’s technical staff successfully rectified the engine defect of the fishing boat at sea and subsequently restarted the engine. The ship also provided logistics support along with medical care and the fishing boat sailed under its own power to enter the fishing harbor.
