Mandya: The Congress has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission stating that their party flag and symbol was being used by Sumalatha Ambareesh during her election campaigns.

Sumalatha, who is contesting as an Independent candidate from Mandya constituency will be facing H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil from Mandya constituency. The BJP has extended its support to her by not fielding a candidate.

Speaking to reporters here Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao said that they have brought the issue to the EC’s knowledge and appropriate action has been sought.

“Sumalatha is being supported by the BJP. It’s natural for BJP flags to be waved during the campaign but our symbols can’t be used,” Rao said.

Responding to query that it was Congress workers waiving the party flag at the campaign, Rao said that if their party workers wish to support her they can do so by quitting Congress. “The party will not tolerate any rebellious activities and disciplinary action will be taken against those who fail to comply,” he said.
