Mangaluru: A head constable of Kadri East police station has been suspended for alleged harassment and taking a bribe.
Acting on the basis of a complaint received against Head Constable Prashanth Shetty, City police Commissioner Dr Harsha issued his suspension order with immediate effect and ordered a departmental inquiry into the case.
It is gathered that the owner of a unisex parlor submitted a complaint to the Commissioner alleging that Shetty and his colleagues were regularly demanding bribe from her by threatening to implicate her in a false case of running an illegal massage parlor.
The complainant even submitted transaction details of the bribe given to Shetty and CCTV footage showing Shetty visiting the parlor as evidence for her allegations.
In a stern message to other police officials who might be involved in taking bribes or other illegal activities, Dr Harsha said that no one is above law.
“Strict action will be initiated against anyone involved in illegal activities,” he added.
