Bengaluru: The Education Department of Karnataka released compulsory guidelines, stating that Kannada language should be taught in all schools across all boards.

The Guidelines directed saying students from Class 1 to Class 10 will be taught Kannada in all the schools from the 2018-19 academic year.

In the rules released on October 12, the department has said that students from classes 1 to 4 will begin to learn the language at an introductory level. Textbooks such as Nali Kali Kannada and Kali Nali Kannada will be used to teach them. From class 5, the subject will have to be compulsorily chosen as either first or second language.

For a student migrating to Karnataka from another state between classes 2 and 8, teachers will have to begin teaching the subject at an introductory level, using class 1 textbooks. However, the secondary education department is yet to determine how the subject will be taught for students of classes 9 and 10.
