Cops face suspension after teen, held for curfew violation dies in custody

Lucknow: A 17-year-old boy died in police custody allegedly after being thrashed by the cops here on Friday.
The police suspended two police constables and a homeguard in the aftermath of the incident. A case too has been registered against them.
As per reports the boy was selling vegetables near his residence in Bangarmau town in Unnao. He was detained by the cops for violating the ongoing corona curfew and taken to the local police station.
The boys family alleged that the cops assaulted him in custody and rushed him to a Community Health Centre after his condition deteriorated. He was declared dead later.
Angry locals staged protest at Lucknow road crossing, demanding action against the guilty, a government job and compensation for the victim’s family.
“Two constables and a home guard have been suspended with immediate effect in the matter and the entire matter will be probed,” the police said in a statement.
The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed corona curfew in the state till 7 am on May 24 to curb the spread of coronavirus cases.
