Kellogg’s Corn Flakes may appear to be a perfectly healthy and innocent breakfast option, but they have an unusual backstory.

According to legend, the recipe was created to be an “anti-masturbatory” morning meal.

Is there any truth to this, or is it simply rumor?

Here’s everything you need to know about the origin of corn flakes.

John Harvey Kellogg invented the renowned breakfast cereal in 1894.

It was invented as a healthy diet for patients at the sanitarium where he worked, and its inception was functional: it was supposed to be healthful and intentionally bland.

Kellogg was a Seventh-day Adventist, a Christian denomination that adhered to a strict vegetarian diet free of alcohol, caffeine, and meat. he was also a firm believer in abstinence, believing that sex and masturbation were both unhealthy and aberrant.

Sure, John Harvey Kellogg was an outspoken opponent of masturbation and campaigned for the use of corn flakes to curb it. Corn flakes, on the other hand, were created for hospital patients. Contrary to famous Google search and meme jokes, it was never advertised as an “anti-masturbatory morning meal.”

Masturbation was not mentioned in any of the adverts. The corn flakes were advertised as “nutritious and beneficial.” They would sell them as easy to digest, and they would simply harp on the fact that corn flakes were nutritious, especially in the patent application.

Corn flakes were created with the intention of creating a simple snack that would not upset the stomach, especially for the patients at the San. To be honest, John Harvey Kellogg had some strange ideas about masturbation. In 1887, he published Plain Facts for Old and Young: Embracing the Natural History and Hygiene of Organic Life, in which he explained why masturbation was “self-pollution,” a “solitary sin,” and “the most deadly of all sexual abuses.”

He also held conservative ideas on nutrition. He advocated for never overeating, eating only plain and bland foods, and eating just twice a day.

Corn flakes are incorrectly regarded as an anti-masturbatory food due to its association with Kellogg’s.

No, the cereal wasn’t designed to prevent people from masturbating. It was designed to be a basic, easy-to-digest diet for hospital patients.
