US President Donald Trump has announced that he is terminating the US relationship with the World Health Organization.
Trump has accused the WHO of failing to hold Beijing to account over the Covid-19 pandemic. He also said that funding of the WHO would now be diverted to other global public health organisations.
Trump said, “China has total control over the World Health Organization despite only paying $40 million per year compared to what the United States has been paying which is approximately $450 million a year. We have detailed the reforms that it must make and engaged with them directly but they have refused to act”
Trump’s announcement came the same day that the U.S. mission in Geneva met with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO director-general, about the country’s demands for WHO improvements.
Apart from that, Trump announced a series of decisions against China which includes issuing proclamation to deny entry to certain Chinese nationals and tightening of regulations against Chinese investments in America
