Custom officials foil smuggling bid; seize over Rs 30lac gold seized

Mangaluru: Acting on credible information, Mangalore Air customs nabbed a person and confiscated gold worth Rs.30,75,160 from his possession.
The man identified as Abdul Rasheed hailing from Paivalike, Kasargod, Kerala has been remanded to 14-day custody.
Abdul Rasheed, a carrier of gold was nabbed from near the toilets at the parking area of Mangalore International Airport on February 23 at around 8 pm. He was trying to smuggle the gold by secreting three numbers of oval-shaped packets of gold in powder form mixed with solid gum placed in transparent plastic cover wrapped with blue colored tape concealed in trousers, stated a press release.
The net weight of gold seized from his possession is 638 grams valued at Rs.30,75,160.
Further investigation is ongoing.
