Cyclone Okhi: Two houses damaged, trees uprooted at Ullal

Ullal: Two houses were completely washed away and eight partially damaged as the tides hit coastal belt of Ullal near here.
Several trees and over 15 coconut palms were uprooted by the tide around the coast.
Dakshina Kannada district administration distributed cheques for Rs. 1 lakh each as compensation to the owners of the two houses washed away near Ullal.
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U.T. Khader distributed the cheques in the office of the Deputy Commissioner here.
An emergency control room is set up and stand-by ambulances and fire services have been deployed across coastal areas to meet with any contingencies. Gruel centres have also been set up.
Khader also said that the eight houses which are partially damaged will also receive compensation from the Government in a few days.
DC Sasikanth Senthil S said that high alert has been issued in the coastal areas till 11.30 p.m. on December 4. But it is better fishermen avoided fishing at least till December 6, he said.
