Dalit teen stabbed for sporting moustache in Gujrath

Gandhinagar: Unidentified men stabbed a 17-year-old Dalit boy on Tuesday evening in a Gandhinagar village where two Dalits had earlier been attacked, allegedly by upper caste, for sporting a moustache.
Reports also said that the attack was allegedly carried out by two upper caster boys who were unhappy over the 17-year-old signing a police complaint as a witness to the thrashing of his cousin who was attacked two weeks ago.
The victim has been identified as Digant Maheria, class 11 student. He was soon rushed to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for treatment with multiple stab wounds and was given 15 stitches on his back. Superintendent of Police Virendrasinh Yadav visited the boy and got the details of the incident from him and his family.
Various activists have come forward to protest against the act groups of people have adopted a twirled moustache logo as their WhatsApp display picture to condemn the crime.
An activist said “It is our way of telling people that Dalits will sport a moustache and twirl it like a king without a care in the world. We are sure that more people will join us and change their Facebook and WhatsApp display pictures in the coming days.”
