DIR sleuths arrest customs officer for aiding smuggling at MIA

Mangaluru: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths have arrested a customs officer on charges of aiding smuggling at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA). Reportedly, the customs official has helped a gold smuggler at MIA on Tuesday, October 30th. The arrested official has been identified as Ashwin.

As per sources, Nizar Ahmed, a resident of Mulleria in Kasaragod district was arrested when he was alighting from a plane at MIA on September 20th. During his arrest, the DRI officials had also seized gold estimated at Rs 47 lakh from his possession.

Meanwhile, another official from MIA identified as Shrikanth was also arrested for allegedly assisting the accused Nizar in smuggling the gold. Also gold worth around Rs 25 lakh was seized from Shrikanth’s house. During investigation, it came to light that Nizar was also assisted by Ashwin.
