Ullal: Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra KV said that the COVID-19 positivity rate is increasing in Dakshina Kannada district as a result of increasing cases in neighbouring Kerala and to prevent further spread of the virus new guidelines will be released within two days.

The DC was speaking after visiting the Talapady checkpost on Friday and inspecting the testing being conducted on those entering the district.

“Those who are vaccinated and have a COVID-19 negative report are being allowed entry into the district. During the first wave, passes were provided to daily commuters. We are planning to reintroduce it,” he said.

“Checkposts have been set up at four places near the border with Kerala. Police have been informed to set up checkposts on interior roads as well. The district’s disaster management authority meeting will be held on Saturday and the new guidelines will be implemented in consultation with the Department of Health for students, educational institutions, religious places and inter-State vehicle traffic,” he added.

“The district has a target to test about 9,000 people a day. Presently, 7 to 8 thousand tests are being done every day. Additional teams will be created and the rate of testing will be increased. Additionally, COVID-19 positive patients will be mandatorily put in home isolation or admitted to COVID Care Centres,” Dr Rajendra said.
