Drowning woman holds on to tree branch for 8 hrs, rescued by fishermen

Kalaburgi: A 22-year-old woman who was rescued by fishermen in Mynal village here on Tuesday after she accidentally fell into the Bhima river held on to a branch of a tree for nearly eight hours.

The woman, Vijayalakshmi Srishaila Manga, a resident of Nelogi village in Jewargi taluk was washed away in the water for about two km after she slipped into the river while fetching water.

Vijayalakshmi managed to hold on to a tree branch for nearly eight hours until help finally arrived. A few fishermen who heard her screams rescued her.

She was later taken to the district hospital after the first aid at the Primary Health Centre at Nelogi village.

She is recuperating, said the police.
