Dubai returnee tries to smuggle over Rs 25 lakh gold, held at MIA

Mangaluru: Customs officials at Mangaluru airport arrested a Dubai returnee who was trying to sneak in gold, concealed inside the heating element of an electric rice cooker here recently.
The arrested, identified as Sumesh, a resident of Kasargod had arrived at the airport on an Air India Express flight on October 4.
During the checking, the customs officials found gold valued at Rs 25,45,920 concealed inside the heating element of an electric rice cooker. The officials confiscated the gold and took Sumesh in custody.
He was produced before the court on Thursday, October 8.
