Facebook friend dupes woman of seven lakhs

Bengaluru: A woman from here was duped of Rs 7.5 lakhs by a Facebook friend.
The victim has been identified as Mahalaxmi from Kumaraswamy Layout her.
It has been reported that, Mahalaxmi had befriended a man named Williams Morgan over the Facebook. After a few months, the two developed friendship and starting chatting via Whatsapp too.
After a few days, William informed Mahalaxmi that he had sent her a gift worth 27.77 lakhs.
On March 26 Mahalakshmi, who was eagerly awaiting the gift received a call from a woman claiming to be from the Delhi customs department. She informed Mahalakshmi that they had received a parcel for her and she would need to pay a sum of Rs 7.5 lacs inorder to receive the gift.
Mahalakshmi is said to have deposited the said amount into the bank account number given by the lady but the expected gift was not delivered to her. Post which, when she tried to contact Morgan, his number was switched off.
Post this, Mahalakshmi lodged a complaint at cyber crime. The cyber-crime police department have registered an FIR against Williams Morgan in this regard.
