Fake currency note circulation; two arrested

Karkala: A man and a woman have been arrested by Kaup police on the charges of having circulated fake currency. The arrest were made based on a complaint filed by Sudheer Shetty (43) from Vanjarakatte, Bola post and village in the taluk, accusing the couple of having duped him by tendering fake notes.
Incident synopsis
On Wednesday September 18, two strangers, a man and a woman, approached Sudheer at his shop, Shiva Medicals in Kedinje downtown. at around 10 am. The couple had arrived in a Maruti Brezza car bearing No. KA 05 U 7913, and bought a cream priced Rs 43 and made the payment by tendering a currency note of Rs 200 face value.
Later, Sudheer realized that the note was fake and learnt that the couple has similarly cheated people at Belman, Santoorkopla and other places by circulating fake currency notes.
Arrest
Based on the complaint filed by Sudheer, Kota police arrested Chetan Gowda and Archita Nalke from Davanagere district and were later handed over to Karkala rural police.
Modus Operandi
It is learnt that the couple were lovers and were circulating fake currency notes to shops located in rural areas during their travel. The notes in question were manufactured by the accused using a colour printer that the owned.
A case in this connection has been registered at Karkala rural police station.
