Bengaluru: The weekend and night curfew restrictions in Karnataka are being opposed by many, including senior leaders of the ruling BJP party.

BJP National General Secretary and Chikmagalur MLA C.T. Ravi, Minister for Forest Umesh Katti openly expressed that they are not in favor of the weekend curfews and lockdowns in the state.

Pointing out that people have suffered enormous hardships in the previously induced lockdowns, CT Ravi on Tuesday opined that further curfews, lockdowns will only worsen people’s lives and the government should frame guidelines and rules to curb the spread of Covid 19.

He favoured that the government adopt a wait and watch policy and monitor the situation closely. Ravi added that the percentage of fatalities, in the third wave is very less and has caused no harm to those who are fully vaccinated. “We must go into panic mode. However people need to be careful and adhere to the rules, he added.

On Tuesday, BJP National General Secretary C.T. Ravi and Minister for Forest Umesh Katti have stated that they are in opposition to weekend curfews and lockdowns in the state.

Forest Minister Umesh Katti stated that he welcomes the decision if the government decides not to impose a lockdown. He however maintained that people must follow Covid guidelines and preventive measures. If people follow preventive measures, there is no need to impose a lockdown. People should also shun gatherings and celebrations, he said.

Opposition Congress is vehemently demanding lifting of weekend curfew and night curfew in Karnataka. The opposition party has dubbed the ruling BJP government as inhuman.

Meanwhile, a decision on relaxing the restrictions is likely soon after experts opined that the Covid pandemic would reach its peak by January 24.
