FIR registered against BJP MLA Sanjay Patil for communal speech

Belagavi: An FIR has been lodged against BJP MLA from Belagavi rural constituency Sanjay Patil based on the complaint filed by Election Commission (EC) official  for his communal speech. 

Marihal Police enrolled a case under section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 153 (A) (promoting enmity between two groups), 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) and Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act. (Promoting enmity between classes in connection with election).

The FIR was enrolled not long after the MLA’s speech circulated around the web on April 19. 

BJP is yet to separate itself from the MLA’s communal speech. In the mean time, KPCC President G Parameshwara tweeted, “Clearly, for BJP, it’s not about development. It has always been about communal politics.”

The Congress additionally presented a letter to the Election Commission expressing that the announcement made by the BJP leader is violation of moral code of conduct. The party additionally named Patil’s discourse a hate speech against the minorities which professedly aimed to polarize votes on communal ground.

It additionally asked the commission to make a move against Patil to guarantee free and fair probe. 

A few have demanded that he should to be banned from challenging in the elections.
