Puttur: Coffee and black pepper farms started to collapse in front of our eyes. We were helpless. Immediately, we let loose our cow, dog, pig and started fleeing, said Girish, a resident of Hebbettigeri near Abby Falls in Madikeri, giving information on the disaster.
I had been to the farm. While going back home the hill began to collapse. The farm was destroyed right in front of my eyes. I let loose the cow in the barn and also let loose the dog. Along with my family members, I fled from my house, he explains.
His family included his wife, two sons, one daughter and a differentially abled elder sister. Others could have escaped on their feet, but he had to carry his elder sister to safety. His two sons supported him. Survival was our only concern. “I have no clue about the future,” he says weeping bitterly.
He is currently staying at Mahesh’s place, a relative in Kabaka Polya.
