Four of family, including three minors meet watery grave in River Kali

Bhatkal: In a tragic incident four members of a family, including three children met a watery grave at River Kali in Bommanalli village of Haliyal taluk on Monday, December 17 afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Dhulu Gavade (48); his son, Krishna Dhulu Gavade (6); nephew, Satish Beeru Gavade (7); and daughter, Gayatri Dhulu Gavade (9).
It is gathered that Gayatri had accompanied her mother Rani Bai to the river, that is close to their house when the latter had gone there to wash the clothes. However, while Gayatri was playing on the banks she slipped and fell into the water and started to drown. Rani jumped into the water to save Gayatri and Krishna and Satish, both of who were nearby followed her suit.
Upon seeing the children drowning Rani’s husband, Dhulu Gavade too rushed to rescue them but ended up drowning himself. Few workers who were at the spot managed to save Rani from drowning but the others died.
The mortal remains of Gayatri was found on Monday evening while a search was ongoing for the other bodies.
A case stands registered in Ambikanagar police station.
