Gang attacks car passengers

Mangaluru: Kankanady town police have arrested four persons in a case related to an attack on 4 people travelling by car.

The arrested have been identified as Deekshit (19) from Bondel, Abhishek (21) from Kavoor, Hemanth Rai (22), resident of Kunjathbail, and Nikit Poojary (20) from Kavoor Palnir. Another accused, Raju Kunjathbail, is absconding.

The four were remanded to two weeks of judicial custody after being produced in the court.

On May 6th Sunday night around 11pm, Adil Vouch (25), and his friends, Salman, Shaan and Akshar, were travelling by a car. Akshar received a phone call from an unidentified person. The caller spoke in Tulu. Adil, who conversed with the callers, was abused and challenged to come to Bondel. The friends then went to Bondel in a car and a motor bike.

A five member-gang intercepted their car and attempted to attack the passengers. The accused began chasing them when Adil began to turn his car attempted to flee. Caught in a chase, the car hit the road divider near a hotel at Padavinangady.

The gang then approached car, and abused the four. Fearing aggressive behavior, Salman and Shaan fled the scene. One of the accused then hit Adil in the head using a weapon, while another struck his right hand using an iron rod. The others soon joined in physically assaulting Adil. He suffered serious injuries to the head and was admitted into a private hospital.

A complaint was registered naming five persons, of whom the police have successfully arrested four.
