Mangaluru: Brothers and sister… Lets cast our votes; Voting is good work, don’t waste it… use it… see the society change… Let’s cast our vote… Build the nation…

This is not a movie song. This song has been created by the Dakshina Kannada SVEEP committee to spread awareness regarding voting during the election which in itself is considered to be a festival of democracy. Many such songs have been created and used at every instance where awareness on voting may be spread.

It is worth noting that vehicles collecting garbage from home to home are also using the songs. Normally, the vehicles which collected garbage from door to door in corporation, municipality and gram panchayat limits have slogans or songs regarding cleanliness; now the very same has been replaced by songs spreading awareness on voting.

SVEEP committee has made use of local artists and created the lyrics, music and song. The songs are being played at every opportunity through pen drives or memory cards. Since the garbage collecting vehicles have a greater reach to the public by accessing every road and lane in the city and village limits, the SVEEP committee has made use of them to spread awareness on voting through the songs.

Importance to music

“Music plays an important role in highlighting any issue. Music is essential during festivals. Election is a major festival of democracy. Therefore music has been given importance here,” said Dr R Selvamani, Zilla Panchayat CEO and SVEEP Committee President

Convenient to spread awareness

“It is our opinion that playing songs regarding voting in the place of cleanliness makes it convenient to spread awareness on voting. This action has been taken in accordance to the order from the district SVEEP Committee. These songs will be heard till the voting day (April18),” said Purnakala, Operating Officer, Kotekar Town Panchayat
