Gold smuggling bid at MIA: Kerala native held with over Rs 33lac gold

Mangaluru: In yet another seizure, customs officials at Mangalore Air intercepted a passenger on March 13 and seized gold worth over Rs 33 lakh from his possession.
The passenger named Koppa Mammini Khalid, 45, a native of Kerala’s Koppa had arrived via Air India flight from Dubai.
He was attempting to smuggle 737 grammes gold worth Rs 33,75,470 lakhs by concealing in specially designed inner-wear. Further investigation is in progress.
The operation was led by Avinash Kiran Rongali I.R.S Deputy Commissioner Crucial role of surveillance and interception was executed by Bhomkar, Rakesh Kumar and Bikram Chakraborty who were all superintendent rank officers.
