Bengaluru: Calling on the people of Karnataka to rededicate themselves and work selflessly and with utmost sincerity, Governor Vajubhai Vala Saturday said the government and the state can forge ahead only with their active cooperation and participation.

Addressing the gathering after unfurling the tricolour at the 70th Republic Day celebrations at the historic Manekshaw Parade ground here, Vala highlighted various development schemes of the state government including the crop loan waiver scheme and pure drinking water project in the rural areas.

Recalling the massive floods in Kodagu district last year that caused widespread damage, Vala said the state government took up the rescue and rehabilitation measures on a warfooting.

Besides ex-gratia relief to the family of the deceased person, construction of 840 houses has been taken up.

Pointing out that the state stood first in the country in attracting investments, Vala said, “Under the industrial policy 2014-19, approval has been accorded to 1,958 projects with an investment of Rs 3.49 lakh crore, to create employment opportunities to 10.28 lakh people.

“Government is implementing Compete with China scheme,” he told the gathering.

A mesmerising cultural programme along with an impressive march past followed the Governor’s speech.

Children from various schools presented patriotic theme-based dance and drama.

At the end of the event, Governor Vala distributed ‘Sarottam Seva’ awards and prizes to the winners.

Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
