GP member, wife assaulted with sword

Bantwal: Armed assailants barged into the house of a gram panchayat (GP) member during the wee hours of Friday morning and brutally assaulted him and his wife at Meramajalu here.
The victims Yogeesh Prabhu and his wife Shobha sustained serious injuries in the assault and are presently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
According to the police, Prabhu identified the assailants as Prasad Belchada, a rowdy sheeter from Meramajalu and two of his aides.
At around 4 am Friday morning, Belchada and his aides knocked at Prabhu’s residence. They barged their way into the house as soon as the door was opened and assaulted Prabhu with a sword. Shobha too sustained injuries during the assault.
Bantwal assistant superintendent of police, Saidulu Adavat, police circle inspector, T D Nagaraj visited the spot and investigations are on.
