Haphazard parking to attract heavy fines!

- Towing vehicle has come to the city
Mangaluru: Henceforth illegal or haphazard parking on the roads of the city will not be a joke! Vehicles parked in no parking zones and also haphazardly parked vehicle in parking zone will be towed away by the towing vehicle which has newly reached the hands of Mangaluru traffic police. The new toing vehicle will start functioning from March 2nd.
There are 4 traffic police stations (North, East. West, South) under the Mangaluru police commissionerate and tenders had been floated for the procurement of 4 towing vehicles, one each for the respective police stations. Now, one towing vehicle has come and it is function on an outsourced contract.
Illegally parked vehicles on the road side will be towed away by the towing vehicle to the concerned police station. The vehicle owner/driver will have to visit the concerned police station, pay the fines and then release their vehicle. The information was provided to the media by Mangaluru police commissioner Sandeep Patil after the police phone-in programme on Friday Mar 1st.
Fines
Heavy vehicles: Rs 1,600
Medium vehicles: Rs 1,350
Light vehicles: Rs 1,100
Two wheelers: Rs 750
GPS system
In order for the police commissioner to track the movement of ‘Sagar’ vehicles within the police commissionerate, GPS system has been installed at the police commissioner’s chambers. There are 25 ‘Sagar’ vehicles in the police commissinerate and through the GPS system information on where individual vehicle is functioning will be relayed in real time. This system will also come handy to give proper directions during emergency situations, informed police commissioner Sandeep Patil.
